About the journal

Clinical Cardiology and Cardiovascular Research (CCCR) publishes clinical and translational studies across the full range of cardiovascular medicine, from heart failure, arrhythmia and coronary artery disease to preventive cardiology, cardiovascular imaging and outcomes after cardiac surgery. Its readers include general and subspecialty cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, cardiovascular nurses and researchers who translate mechanistic findings into patient care. The journal welcomes original research, systematic reviews, narrative reviews, case reports and short communications, and particularly values work that links physiological insight to measurable clinical outcomes.

Manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review, with statistical review for studies whose conclusions depend on complex analyses, and editors expect adherence to recognized reporting guidelines and prospective registration of clinical trials. All content is published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, so that clinicians everywhere can read and reuse it. Articles are released under continuous publication as soon as they are accepted and edited, and are then grouped into numbered issues.

Aims and scope

CCCR aims to publish cardiovascular research that improves how patients are diagnosed, treated and followed. The journal is particularly interested in studies that test new diagnostic technologies in real clinical pathways, compare treatment strategies in representative populations, and examine outcomes that matter to patients, such as symptoms, hospital admission and survival. By bringing together cardiologists, surgeons, imaging specialists and population scientists, it seeks to shorten the path from discovery to practice and to strengthen the evidence base for cardiovascular care in both high-income and resource-limited settings.

Continuous Wearable ECG Patch Monitoring for Detection of Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation After Cardiac Surgery: A Prospective Cohort Study

Lukas Brenner, Johanna Krüger, Tomasz Nowicki et al.

Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is the most common complication of cardiac surgery and is associated with stroke and mortality, yet rhythm monitoring usually ends when telemetry is discontinued or the patient is discharged. We assessed how many additional cases are detected by continuous…

Lipoprotein(a) as a Cardiovascular Risk Factor: Current Evidence, Measurement, and Management in Clinical Practice

Gabriel Moreira Lima, Lucía Fernández Ortega, Rodrigo Teixeira Bastos

Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a low-density lipoprotein-like particle in which apolipoprotein B-100 is covalently linked to apolipoprotein(a). Its plasma concentration is determined largely by variation in the LPA gene, is stable throughout adult life, and is not substantially affected by diet or…

MD, PhD

Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular Sciences and Public Health, University of PaduaPadua, Italy

Marco Valentini is Professor of Cardiology at the University of Padua, where he directs the heart failure and cardiomyopathy program in the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular Sciences and Public Health. His research combines cardiac magnetic resonance imaging with long-term clinical follow-up to study disease progression in inherited and acquired cardiomyopathies. He has coordinated several multicenter registries in Europe and Latin America, served on the editorial boards of cardiology journals for more than a decade, and became Editor-in-Chief of CCCR in 2024.
