About the journal

The Global Journal of Urology and Kidney Research is a peer-reviewed, open access journal that brings nephrology and urology together in a single forum. It serves nephrologists, urologists, transplant teams, dialysis nurses, epidemiologists and researchers, and publishes original research, reviews, case reports and short communications. The journal has a particular interest in kidney and urinary tract disease in low- and middle-income countries, including chronic kidney disease of uncertain etiology, stone disease in hot climates and equitable access to dialysis and transplantation.

Manuscripts are screened by the editors and then undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts, with additional statistical review when needed. Authors are encouraged to share data and to follow recognized reporting guidelines. All articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license. The journal publishes continuously within each issue, so that accepted articles appear online as soon as production is complete rather than waiting for the full issue.

Aims and scope

The journal aims to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney and urinary tract disease by publishing rigorous research with direct relevance to patients and health services. It welcomes community-based epidemiology, clinical trials, cohort studies and well-conducted reviews that translate evidence into practical guidance, as well as laboratory and translational work with a clear clinical question. The editors give particular attention to research on the causes and early detection of chronic kidney disease, the outcomes of dialysis and transplantation, minimally invasive stone and cancer surgery, and the evaluation of treatments for lower urinary tract symptoms.

Chronic kidney disease of uncertain etiology (CKDu) is a leading cause of kidney failure among farming communities in the dry zone of Sri Lanka, but community-based estimates using confirmatory testing are limited. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2025 among adults aged 18–70 years engaged…
