About the journal

International Epidemiology and Public Health (IEPH) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal for researchers, practitioners and policymakers who study and act on the health of populations. It publishes original research, systematic reviews, reviews, short communications and perspectives spanning infectious and non-communicable disease epidemiology, surveillance, health systems, prevention, and environmental and climate health. The journal gives particular weight to work from settings that are underrepresented in the literature and to studies whose findings can inform programs, policy and resource allocation.

All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers with relevant methodological and subject expertise, and editors assess each manuscript for rigor, transparency and relevance to public health practice. Articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, allowing unrestricted reuse with attribution. IEPH follows a continuous publication model: accepted articles appear online as soon as they are ready and are compiled into issues, so findings reach readers without waiting for a complete issue.

Aims and scope

IEPH aims to strengthen the evidence base for population health action by publishing rigorous, transparent and policy-relevant epidemiological research. The journal seeks studies that measure the burden and distribution of disease, identify modifiable risk factors, evaluate interventions and health system responses, and examine how social, economic and environmental conditions shape health outcomes. It particularly welcomes research conducted in partnership with affected communities and public health agencies, work from low- and middle-income countries, and methodological contributions that improve surveillance, causal inference or the use of routine data for decision-making.

Topics within scope

  • Infectious disease epidemiology and surveillance
  • Vector-borne and emerging infectious diseases
  • Non-communicable disease prevention and control
  • Health systems and primary health care
  • Environmental and climate-related health risks
  • Global health equity and social determinants
  • Maternal, child and adolescent population health
  • Vaccination programs and outbreak response
  • Epidemiological methods and routine data use

Dengue Seroprevalence and Household Risk Factors in Peri-Urban Communities of Dhaka, Bangladesh: A Community-Based Cross-Sectional Study

Tahmina Akter, Shafiqul Islam, Nusrat Jahan et al.

Dengue transmission in Bangladesh has intensified and spread beyond Dhaka city, yet hospital-based surveillance captures only a small fraction of infections. Population-based estimates of past infection in the rapidly growing peri-urban fringe are scarce. We conducted a community-based…

Community Health Worker Interventions for Hypertension Control in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials

Chinedu Okeke, María José Restrepo, Arif Setiawan et al.

Hypertension control remains poor in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where physician shortages limit access to continuous care. Community health workers (CHWs) are increasingly deployed to screen, educate, monitor and support people with hypertension, but the size and determinants of…

Adaeze Okafor-Bennett is Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Trained in medicine at the University of Nigeria and in epidemiology in London, she has spent two decades designing population-based serosurveys and surveillance evaluations for arboviral and enteric infections in West Africa and South Asia. Her current work combines serological data with mobility and climate information to estimate transmission intensity. She has served on several editorial boards and became Editor-in-Chief of IEPH in 2024.
