About the journal

The Journal of Clinical Ophthalmology and Vision Science is a peer-reviewed, open access journal for ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists and vision scientists. It publishes original research, reviews, case reports and short communications on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of eye disease, with particular interest in conditions that place a growing burden on health systems, such as myopia, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. The journal values clinically grounded work from hospital eye services, community screening programs and university laboratories, and research that improves access to eye care.

Submissions are assessed by the editors and then sent for double-blind peer review to at least two reviewers with expertise in the relevant subspecialty. All articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, allowing unrestricted reuse with appropriate credit. Articles are published continuously within each issue, appearing online as soon as they are accepted and finalized rather than waiting for the complete issue, so that clinically relevant findings reach readers without delay.

Aims and scope

The journal aims to publish clinical and vision science research that changes how eye disease is detected, treated and prevented. It prioritizes well-designed studies with clear, patient-relevant outcomes, including population-based surveys of refractive error and visual impairment, trials of medical, laser and surgical treatments, and evaluations of imaging and screening technologies in routine care. The editors particularly welcome research from regions where the burden of avoidable blindness is high, studies of children's vision, and detailed case reports that alert clinicians to uncommon presentations, adverse drug reactions or diagnostic pitfalls.
