About the journal

The Journal of Dental Science and Innovative Research is a peer-reviewed, open access journal for clinicians, educators and researchers working across the dental disciplines. It publishes original research, systematic reviews, narrative reviews, case reports and short communications that address questions of clinical relevance, from caries management in young children to the long-term performance of restorative materials and digital workflows. The journal welcomes work from community clinics and dental schools alike, and gives particular weight to studies that can inform everyday chairside decisions.

Every manuscript undergoes double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers, and authors are expected to follow the relevant reporting guideline, such as CONSORT, PRISMA or CARE. Articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license. The journal uses continuous publication within issues: each article appears online as soon as it is ready and is assigned to the current issue, so authors do not wait for an issue to close.

Aims and scope

The journal aims to strengthen the evidence base for everyday dental practice by publishing rigorous, clearly reported research that clinicians can apply. It seeks studies that compare treatments under real clinical conditions, evaluate new materials and digital technologies against established standards, and report outcomes that matter to patients, including survival, function, pain and quality of life. The editors are especially interested in work from low- and middle-income settings, in pragmatic trials and long-term follow-up, and in careful case reports that document uncommon presentations or novel techniques with enough detail to be reproduced.

Topics within scope

  • Caries prevention and minimally invasive dentistry
  • Pediatric dentistry and early childhood caries
  • Periodontal disease and peri-implant health
  • Endodontics and dental traumatology
  • Fixed and removable prosthodontics
  • Oral medicine and oral pathology
  • Dental materials and adhesive dentistry
  • Digital workflows, CAD/CAM and intraoral scanning

Silver Diamine Fluoride Versus Fluoride Varnish for Arresting Early Childhood Caries: A 12-Month Randomized Controlled Trial in Chennai, India

Kavitha Subramanian, Arun Selvaraj, Deepa Krishnamoorthy et al.

Early childhood caries remains highly prevalent in India, and many affected children have limited access to restorative care. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) and sodium fluoride varnish are both used to arrest cavitated lesions, but direct comparisons in Indian preschool populations are scarce. In…

Cone-Beam Computed Tomography-Guided Management of Invasive External Cervical Resorption in a Maxillary Central Incisor: A Case Report

Ratna Kusumawardani, Bima Prasetyo, Anisa Rahmawati et al.

External cervical resorption (ECR), also termed invasive cervical resorption, is an aggressive, often asymptomatic form of root resorption whose true extent is difficult to assess on periapical radiographs. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) allows three-dimensional classification of the lesion…

Five-Year Survival of Monolithic Zirconia Versus Lithium Disilicate Single Crowns: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Yuxin Liang, Jonas Weidemann, Rawan Al-Harbi et al.

Monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate are the materials most widely used for single crowns made with digital workflows, but their long-term clinical performance has rarely been compared. To compare the 5-year survival and complication rates of tooth-supported monolithic zirconia and lithium…

Prof. Lakshmi Iyengar is Professor of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. She trained in Manipal and completed postdoctoral work on resin–dentin bonding at the University of Birmingham. Her research examines the durability of adhesive restorations, bioactive restorative materials and minimally invasive caries management in public dental services. She has supervised many doctoral and postgraduate theses, has served as an associate editor for two international journals, and leads the journal's work on reporting standards for clinical trials.
